When to Use The App Platform

Use the App Platform for a new application if the application's characteristics align with the platform’s core benefits and there is a focus on simplicity and integration:

  • The Technical Complexity is Low to Moderate: The platform is designed to handle applications with simple, straight forward infrastructure requirements. If the technical requirements are complex, a conventional cloud provides the necessary flexibility, at the price of complexity and effort.
  • The Development Process is Simple: The platform supports local and hosted development (per developer) and a single productive deployment. This keeps things simple, but limits the flexibility on how you develop your software. If you want complex review processes, multiple stages and build pipelines, use another solution.
  • Authentication is Required: The platform provides a flexible authentication system, already integrated in the IT landscape of the organization. Restricting access to certain users and obtaining information about a user is very simple.
  • Access to Internal Systems is Required: The platform provides an API gateway which can easily be configured for your application, in many cases using self-service. This greatly reduces the amount of work required to set up such an access.
